History

Legend says that tea originated in China around the year 2700 BC. While Emperor Shen Nung was strolling through his imperial garden, a slight breeze caused some leaves to fall into a pot of simmering water he was preparing. He found the resulting brew deliciously refreshing and revitalizing, and thus tea was born.

Tea grew in popularity throughout Asia because of its good taste and medicinal properties. Monks especially embraced tea because of its ability to revitalize them during long hours of meditation.

Tea came to the west in the beginning of the 17th century. The East India Company began to import large amounts of tea to England, and thus tea also became known in the western world for its good taste and beneficial properties.
